Depression

Feelings of sadness, hopelessness, pessimism and even self-doubt are not unusual for most people to experience occasionally. These are fleeting feelings and usually, pass in a reasonable amount of time. The persistent feeling of sadness or loss of interest that affects how you feel, think or behave is clinical depression and requires help.

Depression isn’t a weakness; a bout of the blues and you can’t just snap out of it. These symptoms occur most of the day and nearly every day. For many people, these symptoms are severe enough to cause noticeable problems in day-to-day activities such as work, school, social activities or relationships with others.

Depression is not a part of growing older and never should be taken lightly. Older people generally are more reluctant to seek help and the symptoms may be less obvious.
